Hello! My name is Peter C. Hayward, and for the month of February, I am slightly less poor than usual. I hope I do not die!

Why yes, that is a photo of me with sausage in my mouth. You're new here, aren't you?

69.3kg (111 pounds) is exactly the same weight as yesterday. That’s not at all interesting.

My weight has been disappointingly dull since Day 12.

My weight has been disappointingly dull since Day 12.

I worked out today that if I put the rest of my money into bread, I can have 8 slices a day until the end of the project.

8 slices a day! I can live like a king!

Today I bought a new loaf of bread, and had my 8 buttered slices of bread, as well as an onion or two. My friend Em was around, and she expressed concern at how little I was eating (“Nonsense,” I replied, “it’s heaps! I’m completely full.”) and so we looked at a book she’d lent me, detailing how many calories a healthy person should be eating, and compared it to how many calories I was getting each day.

I’m roughly 188 centimetres tall; this book tells me that my healthy weight range is 71-88kg, which I definitely was until about Day 10 of this experiment. Suggested calorie intake for non-active men (I don’t even leave the house more than 3 or 4 times per week) who are trying to lose weight is 1200-1500.

I’m not actually trying to lose weight, but for the sake of argument, we assumed that I was.

A slice of white bread has about 93 calories in it; we added 7 calories for butter, and ended up with the easy-to-calculate “800 calories” from my daily bread intake. An onion has anywhere between 20 and 40 calories, so today, I consumed roughly 830 calories.

It’s under the recommended number, but it’s not horribly low. I would probably do well to have a few more calories each day, but I don’t think I’m going to die in the next 11 days.

I’m a bit fuzzy, so I’m going to cut this post short. I’m functioning okay in day-to-day life, just having a lot of trouble writing – not just here, either. I’m trying to put together a script, and every line is a bit of a struggle. All writing projects (except this blog, obviously) have been postponed until next month.

To make up for the short update, I’ll share the video I’ve been working on lately – Edge Improv performed a show called “The Wishing Tree” at the end of January. It was an improvised show, with scenes based on wishes from the audience. The show went for about an hour; this short sample shows two of the most powerful scenes, “I wish the family would stop fighting”, and “I wish I could breathe underwater”:

If anyone around Brisbane wants a live show recorded, email me with details, and I can give you a quote. I’ll probably post some more samples up in the next week or two; the show was fantastic, and a real joy to film.

Tomorrow: Daily update!

(total money spent so far – $23.37. Remainder – $4.63 - enough for four loaves of bread, with 27 cents left over!)
